Escape from Routine.

We all need to escape from our routines now and again. But we often can’t or don’t need a big break or an elaborate getaway.

A day trip can be a perfect opportunity - a mini adventure in less than 12 hours.

My husband, Brandon, excels in this area.

Before the pandemic, we would often set off on an adventure for the day. We’d have a general idea of an event or location we wanted to attend but we’d allow ourselves to be detoured or inspired if something caught our eye.

These trips were not extravagant, just outside our norm.

We might travel to a nearby town. Or cross the border to Detroit, Michigan - that 45-minutes makes a significant difference!

We would stop to listen to live music, enjoy a beverage or experience a new venue when one appealed to us. We talked to strangers, gained new perspective, and enjoyed being in the moment.

No matter where we travelled, these mini adventures allowed us to slow down, disconnect from our regular lives, and gain a new perspective of the world.

Then, when we got our fill from the day, we would take a short drive home.

Now that life has more or less returned to normal, we have reclaimed these mini adventures. They restore our energy and inspire new ideas. And they are a lot of fun too!

As a challenge in the next few weeks, I encourage you to slip away for the day. Take a break from routine. Gain a fresh perspective, and let it recharge you. It may be just what you need.

Happy adventures! Lauren
